Love this hotel. You have to stay here even if it's just to walk up the ancient wonky staircase! Beautiful room, ceiling a little low but that can't be helped as it was built in a time when people were hobbits and the wooden beams on the ceiling made me feel like I was an pixie sleeping in a grand piano. Also, mushrooms made me see a ghost called Lawrence who offered to sharpen my blade but I kept telling him that I don't carry one so he just melted into the toilet and I eventually nodded off, only to awake to the sound of two yellow finch mating on my window sill at 8am. Turns out, what had happened was, I'd fallen asleep with babeStation on the telly and I imagine as they flew past, they saw what was going down, it must have gotten them in the mood! As I approached them, they stopped, the lad finch turned his head, gave me a little nod and I thought to myself, good lad, then I drew the curtains out of respect. This is the second time I'd stayed at this hotel and the first time I'd tried hallucinogenics. Suffice to say, the first stay was less interesting but equally comfortable. Thanks all, I'll be back.

The location of this old characterful hotel is wonderful, right in the centre of the old town and within easy walking distance of the cathedral, the Roman wall, shops and restaurants. The staff were exceptionally friendly and if you get a chance, book a place on the tour of the microbrewery on site - Richard (head brewer) was extremely personable and provided great detail about the ales they brew on the premises. Then you get to taste them! The bedroom we had was freshly decorated and very comfortable and the bathroom was pristine - we didn't know what to expect as the hotel is so old, so the lovely modern decor was a surprise!

Love this place, it was our 4th stay here and really can't fault anything. Stayed before at Christmas and was decorated beautifully and stayed on New year's eve and had a great time. The rooms are decorated lovely and are perfectly clean, housekeeping are doing a great job and staff are friendly and helpful 😀 The building itself is lovely and stands out from the rest on the street and the bar and restaurant area are decorated so nice in line with the building . Love the original staircase too with its quirky steps 😊

Great location, central yet not too noisy at night. The room was a little compact, but was very clean and suited us fine for just the 1 night stay. The separate entrance for the Brewers Cottage making coming and going easy.

Very central, practically next door to the town hall/visitors Centre, check out is unfortunately at 10 am but go to marmalade for breakfast , It’s only a one minute walk away. Nice bar and accommodation ,we never had a drink there unfortunately, but the Bar always seems busy at night. The rain shower was perfect and quality towels.
